Deus quis que o Islã fosse Sua mensagem final, e o código de vida que ele estabelece deveria ser o adequado para o restante da vida humana.

God has willed that Islam should be His final message, and the code of living it outlines should be the one suitable for the rest of human life.

Além disso, a vida daqueles que creem no Islã deve estar em conformidade com a lei que rege o universo, e o Islã deve ser a fé que orienta a vida humana e molda todas as suas atividades. Por isso, Ele tornou este código de vida abrangente e perfeito, atendendo a todas as capacidades e potencialidades humanas. Ao mesmo tempo, este código eleva tais capacidades e potencialidades ao nível adequado à criatura que Deus colocou como responsável pela terra, honrando-a acima de muitas de Suas outras criaturas e insuflando nela de Seu próprio espírito. Em consonância com esta Sua vontade, Deus fez do Islã uma religião naturalmente voltada para o futuro. Ele permite que a vida cresça e, ao mesmo tempo, a eleva ao mais alto padrão de pureza.

Furthermore, the life of those who believe in Islam should be consistent with the law that governs the universe, and Islam should be the faith to guide human life and shape all its activities. Therefore, He made this code of living comprehensive and perfect, catering for all human abilities and potentials. At the same time, this code elevates such abilities and potentials to the level suited for the creature God has placed in charge of the earth, honouring him above many of His other creatures, and blowing into him of His own spirit. Consistent with this will of His, God has made Islam naturally forward-looking. It enables life to grow while at the same time elevating it to the highest standard of purity.

Isso não impede nenhum aspecto criativo nem suprime um potencial útil. Pelo contrário, desperta e aprimora esses aspectos, garantindo um equilíbrio adequado entre o avanço e a ascensão a um horizonte mais elevado.

It does not stop any creative aspect or suppress a useful potential. On the contrary, it awakens and enhances these while ensuring a proper balance between forward movement and rising to a higher horizon.

É isto que prepara o espírito humano nesta vida para a felicidade superior e a bem-aventurança da vida futura, e o mortal humano para uma vida eterna.

It is this which prepares the human spirit in this life for the superior happiness and bliss of the life to come, and the human mortal for a life everlasting.

Deus também quis que o Mensageiro que transmite esta mensagem final fosse um homem que reflete a fé, com todas as suas características distintivas e sua natureza especial. Assim, à medida que percorre a vida, o Profeta torna-se uma tradução verdadeira e prática desta fé, de sua natureza e de sua direção. Ele é um ser humano comum cujas capacidades humanas alcançaram um alto padrão: fisicamente forte, de constituição perfeita, com sentidos sadios, atento, capaz de perceber perfeitamente tudo o que há para ser percebido.

God has also willed that the Messenger who delivers this final message should be a man who reflects the faith, with all its distinctive characteristics and its special nature. Thus, as he goes through life, the Prophet becomes a true and practical translation of this faith, its nature and direction. He is an ordinary human being whose human abilities have attained a high standard: physically strong, with perfect constitution, sound senses, alert, able to perfectly feel all there is to feel.

Ao mesmo tempo, ele é cheio de emoção, naturalmente atento e sensível, aprecia a beleza e é receptivo e responsivo. Além disso, possui grande inteligência, mente aberta e forte determinação, e controla seus sentimentos e reações. Acima de tudo isso, ele é o Profeta cuja alma reflete uma luz pura, capaz de empreender a viagem noturna de Makkah a Jerusalém e sua subsequente ascensão aos céus. Ele é aquele a quem se dirige a palavra do alto, que vê a luz de seu Senhor, e cuja natureza está em sintonia com a natureza de tudo no universo: pedras grandes e pequenas o saúdam, os galhos das árvores anseiam pelo contato com ele, e o monte Uhud treme à sua presença. Todos esses poderes e potencialidades estão equilibrados em sua personalidade de tal forma a refletir o equilíbrio da fé que ele foi escolhido para apresentar à humanidade.

At the same time, he is full of emotion, naturally alert and sensitive, appreciates beauty, and is receptive and responsive. Moreover, he is of great intelligence, broad-minded, strong-willed, and he controls his feelings and reactions. Above all this, he is the Prophet whose soul reflects pure light, able to undertake the night journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and his subsequent ascendance to heaven. He is the one who is addressed from on high, sees the light of his Lord, and whose nature is in touch with the nature of everything in the universe: small and large stones greet him, the branches of trees yearn for contact with him, and Uhud, the mountain, shakes at his presence. All these powers and potentials are balanced within his personality in such a way as to reflect the balance of the faith he has been chosen to present to humanity.

Deus fez da vida do Profeta, em seus aspectos privados e públicos, um livro aberto para o benefício de seus seguidores e da humanidade como um todo. Nele, podem ler todos os aspectos da fé islâmica e de sua aplicação prática.

God has made the Prophets life, its private and public aspects, an open book for the benefit of his followers and humanity at large. They can read in it all aspects of the Islamic faith and its practical implementation.

Portanto, não há nada nela que seja secreto ou restrito a um círculo fechado.

Hence, there is nothing in it that is secret or limited to a closed circle.

Muitos dos seus aspectos são mencionados no Alcorão, revelando coisas que, para uma pessoa comum, costumam permanecer privadas. Na verdade, até mesmo aqueles aspectos da fraqueza humana, que estão além do nosso controle, são deixados à vista de todos. Quase conseguimos perceber a sabedoria por trás de revelar à humanidade aspectos tão expostos da vida do Profeta ﷺ. Nada em sua pessoa ou em sua vida pertence exclusivamente a ele. Ele e todos os aspectos de sua vida pertencem à sua mensagem. Por que, então, qualquer aspecto de sua vida deveria ser escondido? Sua vida é a fé islâmica, algo que está ao mesmo tempo próximo de nós e é fácil de praticar. O Profeta ﷺ tem a missão de apresentá-la na prática, em sua própria vida, assim como a apresenta por meio de suas palavras e orientações. Este é o papel que lhe foi atribuído.

Indeed, many of its aspects are stated in the Qur’an, revealing things that for an ordinary person are normally kept private. Indeed, even those aspects of human weakness, which are beyond our control, are left open for all to see. We almost see the wisdom behind so revealing such aspects of the Prophets life to mankind. Nothing in his person or in his life belongs exclusively to him. He and all aspects of his life belong to his message. Why should, then, any aspect of his life be hidden? His life is the Islamic faith, something that is both close to us and easy to implement. The Prophet is assigned the task of presenting it in practice in his own life, just as he presents it by word and directive. This is the role assigned to him.

Seus Companheiros — que Deus esteja satisfeito com eles e os recompense generosamente — nos transmitiram todos os detalhes de sua vida. Nada, seja de pouca ou de grande importância em sua vida cotidiana, deixou de ser registrado. Fez parte da vontade de Deus ter um registro tão detalhado da vida de Seu Mensageiro ﷺ, ou melhor, um registro detalhado do Islã como foi vivido pelo Profeta ﷺ. O que os seus Companheiros relataram soma-se ao que o Alcorão registra sobre a vida do Profeta ﷺ, e ambos formam um registro perene dessa vida nobre, que beneficia toda a humanidade.

His Companions - may God be pleased with them and reward them well - conveyed to us all the details of his life. Nothing, whether of little or great importance in his daily life, is left unrecorded. It was part of Gods will to have such a detailed record of His Messenger s life, or rather to have a detailed record of Islam as lived by the Prophet. What his Companions reported is added to what the Qur’an records of the Prophets life and both form an everlasting record of this noble life, which benefits all humanity.

Nesta sua seção inicial, esta surata apresenta um episódio da vida no lar do Profeta ﷺ, mostrando algumas das reações e respostas entre algumas de suas esposas, e entre elas e ele próprio ﷺ. In its opening section, this surah presents an episode of life in the Prophets home, showing some of the reactions and responses between some of his wives, and between them and himself. It also shows how these reactions and responses were reflected in the life of the Muslim community as a whole. This is followed by directives given to the community on the basis of what took place in the Prophets homes, between his wives.

The time when these events took place is not precise, but reference to the various reports detailing them confirm that they definitely occurred after the Prophets marriage to Zaynab bint Jahsh.

It may also be useful to give here a summary of the Prophet s marriages and his home life at that time. This will enable us to visualize the events referred to in the surah. This brief outline is based on Jawami' al-Slrah by Ibn Hazm and the Prophet’s biography by Ibn Hisham. We will also add some brief comments as appropriate.

A primeira esposa do Profeta ﷺ foi Khadijah bint Khuwaylid. Ele tinha 25 anos, ou talvez 23, quando se casou com ela. Ela tinha 40 anos, ou até mais.12 Ela faleceu três anos antes da migração do Profeta ﷺ para Madinah. Ele não se casou com outra esposa durante a vida dela, e naquela época já tinha mais de 50 anos de idade.

The Prophets first wife was Khadijah bint Khuwaylid. He was 25, or perhaps 23,’ when he married her. She was 40 or even older.12 She died three years before the Prophets migration to Madinah. He did not marry another wife during her lifetime, and by then he was over 50 years of age.
